If you click on Accounts on the left-hand side, a new section opens on the right that shows you the current accounts that are set up and you can either link an inbox or add an account. You can see all your accounts with your folders on the left, and you can add a new mail directly above the Accounts section.

The default email app in Windows 11 allows you to add in multiple types of accounts, and below is a snippet of what the Windows 11 Mail app looks like in the preview edition:

Just to bring to your attention, I did encounter multiple issues that I will highlight below. In Windows 11, however, we now can add Office 365 or Exchange accounts. Windows 10 had limitations in what accounts you could add to the default mail app. As a Windows Insider MVP, I am running Windows 11 using the Windows Insider Program where everyone subscribed to the channel gets weekly updates, depending on which channel you prefer to be on. If an employee leaves the company and had access to the shared mailbox using their own device you would need to reset the password to something different in order to prevent them from having continued access to the shared mailbox.Windows 11 is rolling out this week (although it may take some time before it gets to your machines). It works with enforced 2FA as well so you have extra security for the shared mailbox.

Now the shared inbox has a password that can be entered when you get the password screen that comes up when trying to add an Office 365 account to the Windows 10 Mail App. Uncheck the "Require this user to change their password when they first sign in" option.Input a password for the shared mailbox.Select the "Let me create the password" option.Open the user settings for the shared mailbox (Users > Active Users > Clicks on the Display Name).

  • Have the admin go into the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and complete these steps.
  • I recognize this probably would not work in an enterprise setting with a lot of people accessing a shared mailbox, but for a small business it is a great solution (I think). I wasn't able to get that method to work, but after a lot of playing around finally found a solution that definitely works that I wanted to pass along in case it helps others out.
